Chapter 7

Amidst a procession of gourmet items from the tasting menu, Jacob talked with Vivienne, learning more about her to fill in the gaps. She seemed willing to discuss details about her life since moving to New York, so Jacob encouraged her to share.

Their table was in the back next to the windows, for privacy, which was limited in the crowded restaurant. Jacob second-guessed taking Vivienne out, having preferred to spend time alone with her. Yet he wasn’t in the habit of taking a woman to his penthouse, until she had agreed to be his submissive.

Jacob was fairly certain that Vivienne had no other man in her life, no competition for him. She’d already told him that she’d ended it with Adam. And the background check hadn’t shown any evidence of a steady guy since she’d been in the city. But reports didn’t cover everything.

The delectable encounter at Vivienne’s shop inspired Jacob. She was so responsive, which was encouraging. Vivienne whining and panting under his touch filled Jacob’s thoughts, making him hot for her again. He wished that Vivienne was his, so he could command her. Jacob knew exactly what he would tell her to do.

Vivienne took a sip of her champagne, expressing pleasure. Since she didn’t have much knowledge about wine, Jacob had chosen a sparkling wine. It was light, a good introduction to quality wine. Besides, he felt like celebrating. If things went well, Vivienne would soon be his to enjoy at will.

That thought whetted his appetite for the beautiful woman seated across from him. The taste of her on this tongue had been more delicious than the wine he sipped. Vivienne had acquiesced to Jacob’s need, but as good as it was, hadn’t sated his craving for her. Yet if she could bend to his will with so little encouragement, her training might go smoothly indeed.

Yet Jacob wasn’t that far along in the relationship. Overconfidence could be his undoing, so he slowed it down. It was best to get to know Vivienne better before inviting her into his lifestyle. It was a challenging task to know what she thought. She could change moods quickly, going from anger to melting in his arms faster than he’d expect. Jacob would have to get a grip on that, as he didn’t like being caught off guard.

Vivienne was correct; Jacob was in control. And he preferred it that way. It was as things should be, and it was a comfort that she didn’t resist him on that. So far. He had no delusion. It wouldn’t be easy to wield his authority over Vivienne. Yet the challenge excited him.

“How did you and Lana become friends?” Jacob said.

“Through theater.” Vivienne took another bite of her Lobster Newberg, savoring it. “We first met when we studied dramatic arts. Julliard would have been my pick, but I couldn’t afford it. So I ended up at the academy where I met Lana.”

“When was that?”

“Oh, let’s see.” Vivienne glanced up at the ceiling, as if trying to remember.
